Getting started

What is TypeByFaith.com?

TypeByFaith.com is a Bible engagement web application that combines typing, reading, memorization, daily prayer practice, and Verse Songs, Bible passages set to music and sung word-for-word.

Do I need to create an account to use TypeByFaith.com?

Yes, most features require a free account. You can try a demo with Psalm 23 before signing up to experience the typing interface. Once logged in, you'll access verse-by-verse typing, Reading Mode, Memory Verse, Prayers, Verse Songs, and progress tracking. Premium unlocks additional features.

Which Bible translation does TypeByFaith.com use?

TypeByFaith.com currently offers the King James Version (KJV) as the default translation, plus the American Standard Version (ASV) and the Berean Standard Bible (BSB). All three are public domain translations in the United States. The KJV remains our foundation, and when the ASV or BSB has an empty verse slot because of manuscript differences, Type By Faith automatically displays the KJV reading instead with a small note, so users are never left with a blank passage. You can switch translations at any time from the verse or chapter selection modal. More translations are planned as the platform grows.

How do I select a specific Bible passage to practice?

Click "Verse-By-Verse" in the navigation menu, then "Select verse." You can search for a reference like John 3:16, search for a word like love, or pick the book, chapter, and verse from the lists. "Random verse" gives you a passage without choosing one. Chapter-by-Chapter works the same way through "Select chapter."

How do I search for a Bible verse or passage?

Every verse and chapter selector opens with a search box. Type a reference such as John 3:16, Psalm 23, or 1 Cor 13 to go straight to it. Abbreviations and partial book names work, and a book name on its own, like Philippians, lists all of its chapters.

You can also search by words. love, fear not, or the lord is my shepherd all find the passages that contain them, with the best known verses first and your search term highlighted in each result.

Search covers the translation you have selected. Translations word things differently, so when another one has a match yours does not, those results appear in an "Also in KJV" section below your own. Choosing one opens the passage in the translation you are already using, so you still type the version you picked.

While you are typing, you do not need the full selector at all. Click "Change Passage" under the passage title and a search box opens right there. "Browse by book" is still one click away if you would rather pick from the lists.

How are my typing speed and accuracy calculated?

We calculate typing speed in words per minute (WPM) based on the standard definition of a word as 5 characters. Accuracy is calculated as the percentage of correctly typed characters compared to the total characters in the passage.

Schools & Education

Do you offer plans for Christian schools?

Yes! We offer a dedicated School Dashboard for Christian schools and private institutions. Teachers can manage rosters, assign curriculum (Verses, Chapters, Prayers, Tests, Verse Songs), and track grading automatically. We support schools of all sizes, up to 1,000+ seats. For requirements larger than 1,000 seats, please contact us for a custom enterprise arrangement.

Is there a curriculum for homeschooling?

Absolutely. Our school plans start at just 4 seats, making them perfect for homeschool families or small co-ops. You get the same powerful "Teacher Dashboard" features—grading, assignments, and report cards—at an affordable price tailored for smaller groups.

How does the teacher dashboard work?

The Teacher Dashboard is your command center. You can generate student accounts in bulk (no emails required), create assignments with due dates, view a live gradebook, and print PDF report cards. You can specificy exactly what students should type—from specific verses to entire chapters—and let the system handle the grading.

Is student data private (COPPA)?

Yes. We take student privacy seriously. Student accounts created via the School Dashboard do not require email addresses. They log in with a unique School Code, Username, and Password. This ensures full compliance with COPPA and keeps your students' identity secure.

Can multiple teachers manage the same school account?

Yes. The license owner can add sub-teacher accounts from the School Dashboard. Sub-teachers log in with the same School Code as students but get teacher-level access to manage the roster, groups, assignments, and reports. Each sub-teacher uses one seat from the same shared pool as students (a 100-seat license could be 95 students + 5 sub-teachers, or any other mix). Sub-teachers cannot manage billing or add other sub-teachers. Those actions stay with the license owner.

Verse Songs

What are Verse Songs?

Verse Songs are Bible passages (KJV) set to music and sung word-for-word. As each song plays, you type the exact words of Scripture karaoke-style, right along with the singing. Because the lyrics are the verse itself, every play helps hide God's Word in your heart, and each play counts toward your daily streak.

What are the ways to play a Verse Song?

Every song can be played three ways. In Type the Words, you type each word in its moment as it is sung — each word is graded Miss (nothing typed), Good (the first letter), Great (half the word), or Perfect (the whole word). In Easy — First Letters, you type just the first letter of each word, scored Perfect or Miss — great for beginners and young typists. In Freestyle there is nothing to type at all: the lyrics glow by as they are sung and every key on your keyboard plays a note or drum tuned to the song, so you can simply play along. You can also preview any song from the songbook before you choose it, and pick a Relaxed or Slow song speed in the typing modes. There are no levels or unlocks; the songs you keep coming back to are the verses that stay with you.

Where does the music come from?

Type By Faith features original music created with AI technology, with each Verse Song singing a Bible passage word-for-word. This allows us to provide high-quality scripture music without licensing costs, keeping TypeByFaith.com affordable and accessible to everyone.

How many Verse Songs are there?

The songbook launches with 20 Verse Songs, including John 3:16, Psalm 23, Proverbs 3:5-6, Philippians 4:13, Romans 8:28, Isaiah 40:31, and more. Premium members can play the entire songbook every day.

Which Verse Songs are free?

Free accounts get the Song of the Week — a new verse song every Monday with unlimited plays and all three play modes. There are no daily play caps in Verse Songs. Premium unlocks the entire 20-song songbook, any day you like.

I'm experiencing audio issues in Verse Songs. What should I do?

For the best audio experience, we recommend using Chrome or a Chromium-based browser (like Edge or Brave). If you're on Safari or Firefox and experience timing issues, switching browsers often resolves them. Make sure your volume is up and no other audio is playing.

Race Mode

What is Race Mode?

Race Mode is a competitive typing feature where you race against Bible character opponents like Moses, King David, Queen Esther, Apostle Paul, Mary, Abraham, Ruth, and Peter. The opponent adapts to your typing speed using our "Elastic Rival" system, so races are competitive regardless of whether you type 20 WPM or 100 WPM. Collect power-up items during the race to boost yourself or slow down your opponent.

How many races can I do per day?

Free users can race 2 times per day. Premium members have unlimited races with no daily limit. Race Mode is available in both verse-by-verse and timed test modes.

How do race power-ups work?

Mystery boxes appear throughout the passage as you type. When you type past one, you collect a random power-up item. Press Spacebar to use your item. Available items include:

  • Speed Boost: Auto-types a small burst of characters for you
  • Rocket Boost: Auto-types a bigger burst (great for catching up)
  • Freeze: Stops your opponent from moving briefly
  • Sands of Time: Slows your opponent's typing speed
  • Knockback: Removes some of your opponent's progress
  • Shield: Blocks the next Freeze, Slow, or Knockback attack

The item system uses "rubber-banding" — the person behind gets better items, keeping races exciting until the finish line.

How does the opponent adapt to my speed?

Our "Elastic Rival" system tracks your typing speed in real-time and adjusts the opponent accordingly. The race has three phases:

  • Opening (0-25%): Opponent starts slower to build your confidence
  • Challenge (25-70%): Dynamic back-and-forth tension
  • Sprint (70-100%): Dramatic finish with suspenseful outcomes

The opponent also has human-like behaviors like brief hesitations and surges, making it feel like you're racing a real person. Races are designed to be close, so every race feels competitive.

How do I start a race?

Click the checkered flag icon next to the settings gear on any typing page. Choose your character, then choose who you want to race against. Click "Begin Race" and get ready for the countdown!

Type Together

What is Type Together?

Type Together is a real-time multiplayer feature that lets up to 4 people type the same Scripture passage at the same moment. Everyone sees each other's progress live as floating avatars move through the verse. It works in two contexts:

  • Friends and individual users — one person hosts and shares a 6-character code; anyone with the code can join.
  • Classrooms on a School License — any student can host, and their classmates see the open session in a live list inside the app. No codes, no sharing links — only students on the same teacher's roster can see or join each other.
What's the difference between practice mode and race mode?

Type Together (practice) lets everyone type side-by-side with no pressure. The host can configure settings like Stop on Error, Ignore Case, and Skip Punctuation. When everyone finishes, you see each player's WPM, accuracy, and errors.

Race Mode adds competition with a countdown, mystery boxes with power-ups, and a ranked leaderboard at the end. Stop on Error is always on in races. The host can optionally enable Type Assist to auto-advance symbols and accept any letter case.

How many people can join a session?

Each session supports up to 4 players (1 host + 3 others). The host controls the verse selection, session mode, and typing rules. After everyone finishes, the host can choose the next verse, replay the same one, pick a random verse, or change the settings.

Do I need premium to use Type Together?

No. Type Together is available to all logged-in users. Free users are still subject to their daily verse limit, so a session may end if the limit is reached. School students always have unlimited access as part of their teacher's School License.

How do I start a Type Together session with friends?

Click "Type Together" in the navigation menu, then choose "Host a Session." Pick your display name, choose a Bible character avatar, select a verse, and choose your session mode (Type Together for side-by-side practice, or Race Mode for competition). Share the 6-character code with your friends so they can join.

How do I join a friend's session?

Click "Type Together" in the navigation, then choose "Join a Session." Enter the 6-character code your friend shared, pick your name and avatar, and click "Join Session." You can also join by pasting a link that contains the session code.

How does Type Together work for school students?

School students don't use 6-character codes. A student taps "Type Together," then chooses "Host a Session" to start one, or "Join a Classmate" to see a live list of classmates who are currently hosting. Only students under the same teacher's license appear in that list. When a classmate opens or closes a session, everyone else's list updates instantly.

Can my student type with students from another school?

No. Type Together sessions created by school students are automatically scoped to a single teacher's roster. Students can only host with, join, or see sessions from their own classmates. Students also cannot see or join sessions hosted by regular (non-school) users outside the school, and outside users cannot join school sessions — the isolation is enforced both in the app and at the database level.

How do I turn Type Together on or off for my classroom?

Type Together is on by default for every school license. To disable it, go to your School Dashboard, find the "Class Settings" card, and flip the Type Together switch off. The change applies immediately — your students will no longer see Type Together in their navigation or on their typing page. Flipping it back on restores access without any additional setup.

Bible Trivia

What is Bible Trivia?

Bible Trivia is a presenter mode for premium users designed for groups — host a trivia round for your family, Bible study, Sunday school class, or Facebook live audience. The page shows one big question on screen with a countdown; when time's up the answer is revealed alongside the verse it came from and a brief explanation. No clicking-to-pick, no scoring, no leaderboards — the audience answers out loud.

How many trivia questions are there?

994 verified questions covering all 66 books of the Bible, mixed across multiple-choice, short-answer, and fill-in-the-blank formats. Every question went through an independent verification pass before being added.

Can I focus a session on a specific book?

Yes. From the start screen tap "Pick a Book" to see all 66 books grouped by Old and New Testament with a question count for each. Useful for groups doing a sequential book study — "this week we're on Romans" — so the trivia matches what you're already focused on. You can change books mid-session via the toolbar chip.

Can I share my screen for a live group?

Yes — there's a fullscreen toggle in the top-right of the trivia page. The question text, options, and countdown ring scale up so the screen is readable from across a room or in a Zoom / Facebook live broadcast. Works on any browser that supports the Fullscreen API (most desktops and tablets).

How does the timer work?

Pick 15s, 30s (default), 60s, or Manual from the toolbar chips. The countdown ring shows remaining time visually. You can pause and resume any time, or click "Reveal Now" to short-circuit the timer when your group has already answered. In Manual mode there's no timer at all — you reveal whenever you want.

What if a question references KJV wording but I'm reading ASV or BSB?

About 43 of the 994 questions hinge on KJV-specific wording. When one of these comes up and your selected translation isn't KJV, a small "References KJV wording" pill appears above the question so you know to either skip it or use it as a teaching moment about translation differences.

Do school students get Bible Trivia?

Yes. Students under a School License have premium-equivalent access, so they (and their teacher) can host Bible Trivia rounds for the classroom. Great for warmup activities at the start of class or end-of-week review games.

Pray Along

What is Pray Along?

Pray Along is a premium audio prayer experience. Pick one of 10 Scripture-based categories or run fully random, and a prayer plays out loud while every word lights up on screen in time with the audio. Designed for prayer time alone, with family devotions, or in a small group setting.

How is Pray Along different from the regular Prayers feature?

The regular Prayers feature has you type each prayer to build typing skill while internalizing Scripture. Pray Along has no typing — it's a presenter mode where you listen and follow along with the highlighted words. Both use the same library of prayers, but Pray Along is for the moments you want to pray rather than practice.

How many prayers and categories are there?

200 prayers across 10 categories: Identity & Salvation, Guidance, Health & Strength, Mind & Emotions, Provision, Purpose & Work, Relationships & Family, Repentance, Spiritual Warfare, and Worship & Nearness. Every prayer is recorded with both male and female narration.

Can I switch between male and female voices?

Yes. The toolbar at the top of the page has voice chips to choose between male and female narration, and your preference is remembered for future sessions. You can switch mid-prayer too — the current prayer restarts in the new voice.

Do school students get Pray Along?

Yes. Students under a School License have premium-equivalent access, so they (and their teacher) can use Pray Along for classroom devotions or daily prayer time.

Hidden Insights

What are Hidden Insights?

Hidden Insights are small, optional gifts layered into the verse-typing experience. When you finish typing a verse that happens to have a matching trivia question, a small "Hidden Insight Unlocked" card appears in the post-completion area. Tap to engage with the question and explanation, or skip with no penalty. Free for all logged-in users.

Which verses have insights?

That's part of the design — we don't tell you in advance. Insights are meant to feel like a discovery, not a checklist. Just keep typing through Scripture and you'll find them along the way.

Where do I see the ones I've found?

Open Insights History from the user menu. You'll see a reverse-chronological list of every insight you've encountered — answered, skipped, or revisited. Tap any row to open the question and the verse it came from.

Can I retake an insight after answering?

Yes — there's a "Try Again" link on the result screen that re-prompts you with the same question. Your latest answer overwrites the previous one.

Are Hidden Insights premium?

No — Hidden Insights are free for all logged-in users, with no daily limits. They're part of the depth of the typing experience, not a paywalled feature. Bible Trivia (the host-led group mode) is the premium feature.

Shepherd's Hub

What is Shepherd's Hub?

Shepherd's Hub is a premium feature for personal discipleship groups—perfect for youth leaders, Bible study groups, and mentors. Create a group and track your members' Bible typing progress. As a shepherd, you can monitor member streaks, verses completed, reading time, WPM, accuracy, and VOTD completion—all from one dashboard. Members can join groups for free from their Account page; only the shepherd leader needs premium to create and manage groups. (Looking for school classroom management? See our School Licenses.)

How do I create a group?

Go to the Shepherd's Hub page, enter a group name, choose your enrollment mode (auto-approve or manual approval), and click "Create Group." You'll receive a unique access code to share with your group members.

How do members join my group?

Members can join from their Account page by entering your group's access code. If you've enabled auto-approve, they'll join instantly. With manual approval, you'll review each request before they're added to your group.

What stats can I see for my group members?

You can view each member's current streak, verses typed today and this week, reading time, typing speed (WPM), accuracy percentage, VOTD completion, and last activity time. All stats update in real-time as members practice.

What's the difference between Shepherd's Hub and School Licenses?

Shepherd's Hub is for personal discipleship groups—youth leaders, Bible study groups, and mentors who want to track their group members' Bible typing progress. The leader needs a Premium subscription, but members can join for free using their own email accounts. It's designed for informal, volunteer-led groups.

School Licenses are for Christian schools, homeschool co-ops, and classroom settings. Teachers create and manage student accounts (no email required—COPPA compliant for children under 13). Students log in with a School Code + Username + Password. School Licenses include a full assignment system (assign Bible chapters, verses, prayers, timed tests, lessons, memory verses, and Verse Songs), class organization, progress reports, and all students receive unlimited Premium features automatically.

Key differences:

  • Account creation: Shepherd's Hub members sign up themselves with email; School students are created by teachers (no email needed)
  • Login method: Shepherd's Hub uses regular login; Schools use School Code + Username + Password
  • Cost: Shepherd's Hub is included with Premium ($4.99/mo); School Licenses are per-seat ($12.00–$28.80/student/year based on volume)
  • Assignments: Shepherd's Hub tracks progress only; Schools can assign specific work with due dates
  • Best for: Shepherd's Hub for church groups and mentorship; School Licenses for classrooms and curriculum

Typing Practice

How do daily streaks work?

Daily streaks track your consecutive days of typing practice. Complete any typing activity (verse, chapter, timed test, lesson, memory verse, prayer session, or Verse Songs play) to maintain your streak. The fire badge in the navbar shows your current streak count, and clicking it reveals your weekly progress calendar. You'll earn milestone celebrations at 7, 14, 30, 50, 100, and 365 days! Premium members get 2 Streak Freezes each month that automatically protect your streak when you miss a day, so a busy weekend or family event won't reset your progress.

What is the Verse of the Day?

Each day features a curated verse with a spiritual theme like "Joyful Thanksgiving" or "Divine Guidance." When you sign in, a banner appears below the navigation inviting you to type today's verse. Click the banner to go directly to that verse. Once you complete it (or dismiss the banner), it won't reappear until the next day's verse is ready.

How can I improve my typing speed?

Consistent practice is key to improving typing speed. Try to practice for at least 15-20 minutes daily with TypeByFaith.com. Focus on accuracy first, and speed will naturally follow. Also, maintain proper typing posture and hand positioning.

Does typing Scripture help with memorization?

Yes! Many users report that typing Scripture regularly helps them memorize verses more effectively. The physical act of typing engages multiple learning pathways in your brain, reinforcing memory retention.

What is Audio Sync?

Audio Sync is a reinforcement tool available for the Book of Psalms. It synchronizes spoken audio with the text word-by-word. In Typing Mode, it acts as a pacer: the audio pauses when you stop typing and resumes when you continue, helping you stay focused and internalize the scripture. In Reading Mode, it plays continuously while highlighting the text, allowing for an immersive read-along experience.

What are Key Sounds?

Key Sounds plays a keyboard sound on every key you type, so practice feels like a real keyboard instead of a silent screen. You can pick from four packs: Mechanical, Typewriter, Modern, and Pure Tick.

Key Sounds is on by default with the Mechanical pack. To change it, open the settings gear on any typing page, where you can switch packs, adjust the volume, or turn it off completely. Your choice is saved in the browser you are using, so a second device is set separately.

Key Sounds is free on every plan, and it is separate from Error Sound, which only plays when you make a mistake.

What's the difference between Verse-by-Verse and Chapter-by-Chapter mode?

Verse-by-Verse mode (free) lets you type individual Bible verses one at a time, with a daily limit of 5 verses. Chapter-by-Chapter mode (Premium) allows you to type entire chapters in one session and removes daily limits on verse-by-verse practice. Both modes track your WPM, accuracy, and progress.

How do bookmarks work?

Bookmarks let you save your favorite Bible passages for quick access. While typing, click the bookmark icon to save the current verse or chapter to a category. You can create multiple categories (like "Favorites", "Memory Verses", or "Study Topics") to organize your bookmarks. You can also share your bookmark collections with others using a share token, and import collections shared by friends or study groups.

Technical Questions

Which browsers are supported?

TypeByFaith.com works with all modern browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. For the best experience, we recommend keeping your browser updated to the latest version.

Does TypeByFaith.com work offline?

No, TypeByFaith.com requires an internet connection to load Scripture, save progress, and stream audio for Verse Songs and Memory Verse.

No questions match that. Try another word, or send us a message.
